Topic Search Workshops

How to find scholarly and general online articles. Topics include Health Sciences, Business, Law, Controversial Issues, History, Education, Humanities, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, English, Literature.

Citation Workshops

How to use common citation styles such as APA, Chicago Style, AMA and MLA, in writing your papers and creating your bibliographies. Common citation tools are demonstrated and discussed.

Navigating Scholarly Databases

This workshop will familiarize you with your school library’s scholarly databases. We will discuss the “federated” general search of all databases as well as overview of how to search and filter articles using the most common databases such as EBSCOhost, Gale, Proquest and SIRS and others.

Literature Review Assistance

The most important part of a research project is understanding the subject matter. Doing a literature review is one of the first steps (in addition to a full chapter of your dissertation). We will show you how to conduct a literature review for any research assignment, including Capstones or general research short papers and proposals. We will also give an overview of the different types of literature reviews to conduct.

Capstone Assistance

We will provide coaching services on selecting a topic area if you have not already consulted with your advisor. We also provide coaching on conducting and writing a literature review including searching articles and formatting and organizing citations. We can advise on research but encourage you to consult with your professor or advisor for specific research requirements.

Research Proposal Assistance

We will provide coaching services on selecting a topic area if you have not already consulted with your advisor and writing your proposal, including researching literature to support it. We will ensure you have a good grasp of the “what,” “why” and the “how” of your research topic.

Grant Searches and Background Search

We will coach you on background searches for grants (e.g. for a health condition community outreach grant, you would find other organizations that have done this type of outreach and research the communities that need it). We will also conduct a background search for you on particular grants you are applying for if you prefer. We will also provide instruction on the different types of resources that have grants for your subject. We also can provide grant searches for you.
